Sculpture “Fight to the death!” placed on Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd, Russia.
There is memorial complex commemorating the Battle of Stalingrad (August 1942 to February 1943) on Mamayev Kurgan. The battle, a hard-fought Soviet victory over Axis forces on the Eastern front of World War II, arguably turned into the bloodiest battle in human history.
